UK TIER CATEGORY VISAS​

If you have an exceptional talent in fields like science, humanities, engineering, medicine, digital technology and the arts. This needs to be endorsed by the UK Home Office. There is a quota of 1000 visas per year for this category. It is valid for up to 5 years and can be extended for another 5 years.

TIER 1 (EXCEPTIONAL TALENT) VISA

If you have an exceptional talent in fields like science, humanities, engineering, medicine, digital technology and the arts. This needs to be endorsed by the UK Home Office. There is a quota of 1000 visas per year for this category. It is valid for up to 5 years and can be extended for another 5 years.
  • be invited to apply;
  • be younger than 45 years of age when you are invited to apply;
  • nominate an occupation that matches your skills and qualifications and is on the relevant Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL);
  • have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation;
  • have at least competent English;
  • score at least 65 on the Points Test; AND meet the health and character requirements.
    • Stay indefinitely in UK.
    • work and study in UK.
    • Avail govt aided health care facilities
    • Travel to and from UK as many times.
    • Apply for citizenship and UK passport allowing visa free travel to many countries.

    TIER 2 (GENERAL) VISA

    If you are not a EU citizen and desire to come and work in the UK, you can get a Tier 2 General category work visa. In order to qualify for this category of visa, you should have a job offer from a UK employer and be offered a minimum salary of at least £25,000 and have been sponsored by licensed organisation related to their employment. It is valid for up to 6 years.

     

    You need to have a certificate of sponsorship from a licensed sponsor (?.e. potential employer) before you can apply to come to the UK to work, and the work you do in the UK must relate to the work of your sponsor organisation. You can apply for a visa up to 3 months before the date you travel to the UK.
  • YOU CAN: work for your sponsor in the job described in your certificate of sponsorship do a second job in the same sector and at the same level as your main job for up to 20 hours per week do a job which has a shortage of workers in the UK for up to 20 hours per week do voluntary work study as long as it doesn’t interfere with the job you’re sponsored for travel abroad and return to the UK bring family members with you
  • YOU CANNOT: own more than 10% of your sponsor’s shares (unless you earn more than £153,500 a year) start working before you get the visa apply for a second job until you’ve started working for your sponsor get public funds

    • TIER 2 (INTRA-COMPANY TRANSFER) VISA:

    UK work visa for those whose overseas employer has offered them a transfer to a UK branch, on condition of sponsorship. The visa can be valid for between 6 months and 9 years, depending on the position offered.

    TIER 5 (TEMPORARY WORKER) VISA: –

    UK work visa for those engaging in temporary work as a charity volunteer, sports person or creative worker, religious worker, on a government authorised exchange or as part of an international agreement, providing sponsorship has been secured. The temporary UK work visa is valid for between 1 and 2 years, depending on the purpose.
